How about trying this - limit your carbs to only one, once per day. This is what I did for my mum, as she was diabetic. Then, it's important to exercise one hour after you consume the carb. That can be low impact, or you could do something a bit more vigorous.
We tested this several times and it was the one way she could get away with eating some carbs. The trick was to eat it once only, or space very small amounts during the day.
Do be careful though. I didn't do this with the doctors guidance, but chose to hack her hormones a bit to see if we could get some leverage once in a while.
